Staying Inside the 501(c)(3) Lines hosted by NonProfit Vote
Register Now
2025 brings a wave of 100,000 elections at the state and local level across the country -- and that means America's nonprofits have a golden opportunity to get their communities engaged for these historically low-turnout races. But in times as divisive as these, nonprofits NEED to know the limits of IRS 501(c)(3) regulations like the back of their proverbial hands.
Featuring 10-year IRS veteran and current practicing attorney Stephanie Robbins, "Staying Inside the Lines" is ideal for nonprofit professionals at any stage of experience in the voter engagement space. With Stephanie's help, we'll outline the basics of IRS nonpartisan activity stipulations for 501(c)(3) organizations, cover what activities may or may not run afoul of those regulations, and take some time to answer your general questions.
"Staying Inside the Lines" Webinar Panel:
Facilitator: Gwen Stembridge (Associate Director of Education & Partnerships, Nonprofit VOTE)
Panelist: Stephanie Robbins (Attorney/Partner, Harmon, Curran, Spielberg & Eisenberg, LLP)
If you're not sure you can make it to the webinar, then you'll still receive a follow-up email with a full webinar recording if you RSVP.
This webinar will be live captioned. Should you need other accommodations to access the webinar, please email info@nonprofitvote.org.

Local Power, National Impact: Cities on the Frontlines of Democracy -- LWVC Event
Local Power, National Impact: Cities on the Frontlines of Democracy
Join us on Sunday, March 30, 4-5:30 Via Zoom (register here)
With incessant attacks on our nation's democracy making daily headlines, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Many of our California cities, however, should also be making headlines. Cities are doing all they can to uphold democracy, and real change is happening at the local level—change that aligns with our values of inclusion, community, and equity. We are proud that some of our Leaguers have recently been elected to serve their cities, and they are stepping up to defend democracy, protect rights, and drive policy that ripples across the nation.
Join us on March 30 for a powerful conversation with three League members recently elected to local office:
Adena Ishii – Mayor of Berkeley
Lorrel Plimier – Piedmont City Council
Natalya Zernitskaya – Santa Monica City Council
They’ll share why local government is more important than ever, how they’re making a difference, and why strengthening democracy starts at the community level.
Tickets for this unique event are only $10. Get tickets and learn more!

Nonprofit Vote: On the Radar: the SAVE Act, State Laws & Other Policies Impacting Nonprofits
On the Radar:
The SAVE Act, State Laws, & Other Policies Impacting Nonprofits
The last several weeks have been a constant barrage of policy change whiplash, many of which have serious and far-reaching implications for America's nonprofits. Keeping up with the day-to-day tumult at the federal level is hard enough, but factor in new changes across the individual states and things can get pretty messy.
Best rest assured that we're tracking all of it and ready to relay the need-to-know info to you in "On the Radar", where we'll convene a panel of other 501c3 nonprofit organizations monitoring news like the SAVE Act, new laws at the state level, and other policy developments that impact nonprofits doing voter engagement. Additionally, you'll hear from policy experts keeping an eye on state and federal laws, and walk away with greater knowledge to impact your organization’s work. Panel Members: -Andrew Garber (Brennan Center for Justice) -Daniel Griffith (Voting Rights Lab) -Elena Langworthy (State Voices)
